Our mission is to provide a friendly, welcoming place for students, teachers and staff to effectively and freely pursue current and diverse library resources in a variety of formats. The library is a place where patrons have the opportunity to successfully access, evaluate, and use literature, information and technology to support student achievement, to meet the Slinger School District’s curricular goals and objectives, and to foster a life-long love of reading.

The libraries in the Slinger School District maintain critical responsibilities to protect freedom of speech, thought and inquiry of their patrons.  While upholding the duty to protect patrons from overtly offensive materials, the libraries deter the act of censorship, which can lead to the suppression of ideas and information.  Library staff strive to nurture the intellectual curiosity and development of their patrons by means of equitable access to technology, print and digital collections.   

All patrons of the Slinger School District libraries have the fundamental equal right to receive and disseminate ideas and information regardless of race or ethnicity, religious background, sexual or gender preferences, physical or cognitive abilities, or socioeconomic status. 

The Slinger School District libraries operate in accordance with the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights.

In regards to privacy, article VII describes the basic principles we adhere to in our libraries:

VII.  All people, regardless of origin, age, background, or views, possess a right to privacy and confidentiality in their library use. Libraries should advocate for, educate about, and protect people’s privacy, safeguarding all library use data, including personally identifiable information.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student educational records.  However, parents have the right to access their child’s school records until the student reaches the age of 18.
