Students receive instruction in the following literacy areas through the Superkids Reading Program. Superkids is a comprehensive English Language Arts curriculum specifically designed for Kindergarten through 2nd grade students, focusing on foundational reading skills like phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and spelling, with a strong emphasis on the alphabetic principle and developmentally appropriate teaching methods to help young learners become successful readers and writers.

Benchmark Reader’s Workshop is composed of vertically aligned knowledge strands (literary, science, social studies), ensuring that students develop content-area, literacy, and real-world knowledge.  Benchmark  includes the critical daily elements:

• Whole-group mini-lesson
• Small-group reading instruction
• Independent reading and responding
• One-on-one conferring
• Ongoing assessment

Writer’s Workshop provides mini-lessons on the writing process, the craft of writing, and responses to reading, with support for small-group instruction, independent writing, and conferring.

Vocabulary Micro-Workshop provides concise whole-group instruction to expand students’ academic and domain-specific vocabularies.

Grammar Micro-Workshop provides concise mini-lessons based on short mentor texts to build language conventions that support writing development.

Phonics & Word Study Workshop provides explicit instruction and differentiated practice.
