Below is a list of the First Grade High-Frequency Words your child is expected to know by the END of first grade. All 110 words will be taught to your child within the classroom. We will usually learn and discuss five words per week. You have received flashcards with these words on them as well as their Sleepy Time Pillowcase. Please practice the words with your child. If your child has mastered the word put it to the side and retest the following week to two weeks. Please note that when your child is tested on these words, sounding out the words does not constitute as knowing the word by sight. Your child must identify and read the word similar to the time it takes to state their name. Your child does not need to know how to spell these words unless they are on the expected spelling words for first grade below. However if your child has mastered this list, you can start to work on the correct spelling of them.
