German Club

The Slinger High German Club is open to all students currently enrolled in German I, II, III, and IV. The purpose of this organization is to provide a social setting in which to promote the German language and culture outside the classroom. Officers, who are elected each May for the coming year, set the agenda for the monthly meetings.  Often meetings are followed by a cultural activity.  Past activities have included a rosé making lesson, a scavenger hunt, lantern learning, baking and cooking, German bingo or board games, a German video, and egg decorating for the residents of a local old age home. Occasional weekend activities have included dinner at a German restaurant, shopping at an import store, an indoor soccer game, and a German Fasching (Mardi Gras) celebration. German Club members work concessions once a year and hold a chocolate bar sale in March to raise funds for the club. Nominal dues are charged each student wishing to be a member of the German Club.  The advisor to the German Club is Frau Erika Guth-Degner.

Slinger-German Exchange Program

The current Hessen exchange between Slinger High School and the Kaethe-Kollwitz Gesamtschule of Langenselbold, Hessen, is now in its third year, running every other year.  The exchange program is open to current German students who will have completed their third of fourth year of German by the time they travel to Germany. The program begins in September with the visit of the German students to Slinger for three weeks. During this time, the German students live with the families of Slinger German students, go to school, on field trips, and get to know the American way of life from their hosts. In June of the same school year, their German counterparts in their homeland of Germany. This exchange program has proven to be a most valuable experience for all who are involved, students and faculty alike. Spanish Club

Spanish Club provides students with the opportunity to learn more about the culture of Hispanic countries. Club activities center around holiday celebrations such as Day of the Dead and Cinco de Mayo. Members may be found doing arts and crafts activities such as making God's eyes, paperflowers, clacker boards, castanets, piñatas, etc. One of the meetings will involve preparing a Mexican meal in the FACE room. Club members may decide to do other things such as watching a popular movie dubbed in Spanish or even trying to do some Karaoke singing in Spanish.

The club meetings are on the second Monday of each month, right after school in room 215. They normally last until 4:30. Although regular attendance is not required, good attendance prizes are handed out at the last meeting. We have one fund raiser, normally the selling of skull pops. We also work at the PBO concession stand one time each year. The dues to join the club are $2.50 per year. The club advisor is Senora Kristan Mazemke.
