November 3, 2009

Board Members Present:    Jenny Schmidt, President
                                         Kelli Sellness, Vice President
                                         Jamie Hamlin, Treasurer
                                          Lisa Graunke, Secretary
Teachers Present: Mrs. Risse & Mrs. Schmitt

The meeting opened with a presentation from Carrie Johnson who works for the Washington County Health Department. Carrie gave information regarding H1N1 flu and talked about symptoms, preventative measures, and the vaccinations available (especially for high risk groups). She stated that you can call the county to schedule an appointment to receive a vaccination.

Jamie Hamlin reported starting cash on hand of $6707.99. Expenses paid included field trips for 1st & 2nd grade to the Schauer Arts Center, a return from the plant sale, and juice boxes for the Walk-a-Thon totaling $602.60. Income included September profit for Market Day of $191.03 and Walk-a-thon deposits of $5997.00. Total income was $6188.03. The ending balance is $12,293.42.

Old Business:
Holly Koerner reported on the Walk-a-thon. As of today the fundraiser raised $6513.00. The profits from the Walk-a-thon have dropped quite a bit in the last couple of years. Despite this, it is still a very successful fundraiser for the school.

Holly also reported on Market Day. She stated that there are approximately 40 families that order from market day each month. It raises approximately $200.00 per month.

Cathy reported on the student directory. It was mentioned there were a couple of omission/errors in the directory and some updates will go home to the students with the corrections.

New Business:
Discussed future PBO dates. They will be 1/14, and 4/22. The time will be 6:30pm.

Kelli Sellness reported on the Fall Festival which is scheduled Friday, 11/6 from 6:30pm-8:30pm. She said she received a great response to the request for volunteers. She felt the committee was prepared for the event and mentioned that the committee was going to meet after the meeting to discuss final details.

The PBO Movie night is scheduled for 11/24 at 6:30pm. The movie selected is “UP” which is scheduled to come out on DVD on 11/10. The following movie night will be on 1/15 at 7:00pm.

The PBO will again provide a staff appreciation dinner during Parent Teacher Conferences on 11/17 and 11/19. There will be approximately 40 staff members. Jamie Hamlin volunteered to call Brian’s Catering to provide one of the meals. A potato bar was mentioned as a suggestion for the second night of conferences. Everyone felt it would be nice to patronize Brian’s business since he provided the meal last year at no cost. The food would need to be delivered to school by 3:30pm, dinner would be at 4:00pm. There was a sign-up sheet for salads and desserts for both nights.

Speakers for the 1/14 meeting were discussed and it was decided that Mrs. Schmitt would do a clicker presentation.    Mrs. Rasmussen is interested in doing a technology presentation at the 4/22 meeting. She will discuss resources and educational websites for students and parents.
Deb Jaques agreed to chair the plant sale again this year.

Lisa Getsfried gave an update on this year’s yearbook. She said that the new yearbook will have 36 pages with color. The cost will be $10.50 each. She asked if the PBO would pick up $1.50 for each yearbook to decrease the cost to the students to $9.00 each. It was voted on and approved.   A Lifetouch photographer will be at the school on January 28th to do the group pictures.

Family Fun Night will be on Dec 8thfrom 6:30pm-8:00pm. They will be making gingerbread houses. The 5K CAP (Child and Parent) night will be on 12/3 from 6:00pm-7:00pm. The 4th grade had their CAP night and it was a successful event with a good turnout from students/parents.
