Welcome to 4K! I look forward to being your child’s teacher! I am excited to start this new adventure with you! I have been teaching for 10 years! I am moving to 4K from previously teaching 5k! My daughter, Whitney, was in 4k last year, so she is excited to help me with 4k this year! My husband, Tyler, teaches and coaches in Lomira!
I welcome notes, phone calls, and emails from you. To help with the communication I will be sending home monthly newsletters. I will also be using a monthly planner/binder that will come home and back to school daily in your child’s backpack. It will include important dates , messages from me, and you can also write messages to me. Please check and sign it daily. My email is gina.witkowski@slingerschools.org. The phone number for Slinger Elementary is 644-6669. Please be sure to report all absences via the attendance line. The attendance phone number is 644-6204. Our school has a fever free for 24 hours policy.
At Open House your child will take home name tags to be worn the first days of school. Please put them on your child. You will also attach a safety information tag to your child’s backpack. This lists the “drop off” address whether home or sitter/daycare. If there are any changes in “drop off” throughout the school year please notify the office and me. Please leave this tag on all year. Please also label all backpacks, coats, hats, mittens, etc. with your child’s name; this really helps identify all those “look-alike items”.
A.M. class times are 8:40-11:40. P.M. class times are 12:50-3:40. Our day will include: greetings (teacher and classmates); free play and centers; opening activities (calendar, weather, schedule); group time (lesson/letter of the week, and math); snack break/bathroom break; story/library; music; outside play; computer time; field trips; and closing/dismissal.
Snack is an important time for 4K. It not only replenishes energy; it gives us a chance to share and practice our manners. We will have milk to drink and each family will be asked to supply a small, healthy class snack. The day your child is drawn out of the “helper bucket” and becomes the class helper, he/she will bring home the class snack bucket. Please have fun with this and find a snack to bring in the next day. When your child is the snack helper he/she will sit in the helper chair and be the line leader! Please make the snack peanut and nut free. I have included some snack ideas incase you would like to plan ahead! Many parents like to plan ahead with their busy schedules.
If you can volunteer some of your valuable time either in the classroom or at home please look for the volunteer note and fill it out. I will then create a helper calendar for each month. Grandparents are welcome to volunteer as well. Volunteers will begin in October as we use the first month of school to help us develop our independence!
I look forward to seeing you at Open House on Tuesday August 25th!
