Is there homework in 2nd grade?
The simple answer….YES! We are growing our brains, and to do that we need to work on some things almost nightly.
THINGS I SHOULD TRY TO DO NIGHTLY
- Read, read, read! Ideally 20 minutes most nights of the week. Students who read 20 minutes most nights are accumulating 36,000 minutes of reading in a school year!
- Work on math facts for 5-10 minutes! Fact fluency is the foundation to math skills. By the end of 2nd grade we are looking at fluency with addition and subtraction through 20.
OTHER HOMEWORK TO EXPECT
- Some nights there might be an additional reading or math activity to complete and return.
- Please feel reassured, that I believe, homework should never be a battle!!!
- If a task is causing your child:
- stress
- frustration
- seeming to take too long to complete
Please stop and jot a note in their assignment notebook. I will meet with them to reteach. My goal is problem solving and persevering, not stress or tears.
- If you ever have any questions regarding homework, feel free to email or contact me by phone.
